Ultrasound and X-ray Services for Pets

Our ultrasound and X-ray services allow us to provide rapid results on what is inside your pet’s body. We use these diagnostic tools to examine their organs and tissues. We collect images that will be shared with a Board-Certified Veterinary Specialist who will determine the cause for your pet’s discomfort. If you suspect your pet needs to be checked for internal issues or invisible diseases, make an appointment by calling us at 250.591.4050.

What kind of medical conditions can an ultrasound or X-ray find?

Ultrasounds and X-rays can spot pregnancies, injuries from broken bones and foreign objects your mischievous pet may have consumed. It can also detect abnormalities in your pet’s organs, leading us to discover heart and kidney diseases. Some of the services we commonly perform include cardiac scans (ECHO), abdominal scans, tumour investigation, digital dental radiography and sample collection for later diagnosis.

Will my pet feel pain when they’re being examined?

Your pet will not feel any pain when they undergo an ultrasound or X-ray evaluation. Depending on which tool is used, they will be exposed to different sensations. In some cases, if pets are too nervous or in pain from the injury we are inspecting, we will give them anesthesia to keep them still.

What happens during an ultrasound or X-ray?

During an ultrasound your pet will lay down and have a soft probe hover over the area of interest. They will feel warmth and slight pressure from the probe. This experience is very similar to what humans encounter when they are taking a look at their baby. An X-ray requires protective gear to cover your pet’s body and minimize their exposure to radiation. The only part of their body that is visible is the afflicted area, which we quickly scan.
